In the instant runoff without A, B wins over C with 18 vs. 16 votes. Now C withdraws after the election. • Homework 1 is posted; due Tuesday, Sep 7, 9:50am in class.
• Mrs.  Gunton has found a better classroom for us. Class will meet in Williams 2112. On Thursday Aug 26 at 9:50am I will walk with any of you from HA 353 to the new class room.
• The course web sites for Fall 2003, Fall 2002, Fall 2001, and Fall 1999 contain old homeworks, mid-semester exams, and anonymous grade lists.
• Homework 2 is posted; due Tuesday, Sep 14, 9:50am, in class.
• I have posted the solution to last year's first exam.
• The deadline for Homework 2 is extended to Wednesday, September 15, 9:50am. Please place the homeworks into my mailbox in HA 245 by then. If you hand in your homework on Tuesday Sep 14 in class, I will be able to return the graded homework to you in class on Thursday, Sep 16. I may not be able to return the homeworks that I receive on Wednesday by Thursday. If you hand in your homework in class on Thursday, Sep 16, at 9:50am, your homework will be one day late with a 20% penalty. I cannot accept any later submission as we will go over the homework then.

• Homework 3 is posted. You should be able to solve problem 1. You will be able to do problem 2 after class on Tuesday, Oct 12, or you can read ahead in the book.

• The second mid-semester exam is on Thursday, November 4, during class. You can bring two 8.5 by 11 sheets of paper with notes on both sides. I have posted the solution of last year's second exam.
• Homework 4 is posted. You should be able to solve problem 1. You will be able to do problems 2 and 3 after class on Thursday, Oct 28, or you can read the online notes linked in the syllabus.
• Problems 2 and 3 of homework 5 are posted. The assignment is now complete. The deadline is extended to December 2, so that you can see me during office hours on Tuesday, November 30.
• The bonus homework 6 is posted. In my grade computation, I will add your achieved points to your homework total but not to the maximum homework total that is used for scaling your total percentage.
• These topics have been approved for presentation. The time slots for the presentations are on the syllabus. The term papers for your topics are due in my hands on December 5pm.
• If you choose a topic that is not from the book, please make me a copy of what you read and provide me with a full citation.
