I wasn't sure how exactly to make this cake so I started my making lots of shapes. Here are the cake shapes I started with. This includes twinkie pan, rectangular cupcake pan, round cupcake pans (small and normal), triangular cupcakes (actually a shortbread pan), large rectangular pans and I made a few small hearts.
I started with a picture and blew up the picture. Here I show the picture on a large wooden board. I then started placing shapes and had to cut some of them.
I slowly pulled the paper out from under the cake and here is the resulting cake ready to ice.
